This Easter Monday saw the centre of Marhamchurch village busy with food stalls and bustling with customers trying – and buying – the many delicious goodies on offer.
Village resident and Community Shop volunteer Peter Green organised the food fair as a fundraiser for the shop, and what a success this inaugural event turned out to be! The contributions by the shop, Bullers Arms Hotel, the Haven Art Group and the primary school contributed greatly to the lovely village atmosphere. The Bray institute was the venue for cream teas, the bake off competition and auction of cake entries and other donated prizes.
As well as the stalls in the village square, there was a hog roast provided by Chris Joplin beside the Bullers Arms. The wonderful aroma emanating from the hog roast pervaded the whole area, enticing many customers – so many in fact that extra rolls had to be purchased during the day!
The attendance at the Haven Art Group’s display in the Methodist Hall broke all previous records, the bake-off competition attracted some incredible entries from children and adults alike, and the bunny hunt organised by Jackie Walter kept children busy throughout the event.
We understand that the suppliers involved all had an excellent day, and were positive about participating again in future. Many thanks to them all for their attendance and for supporting our Community Shop.
All in all, the first Marhamchurch Food Fair was a resounding success. Congratulations to Peter Green for initiating and organising this, and huge thanks to everyone involved for their hard work in making this a village event to be proud of.
A very jolly time was had by all at the Marhamchurch Village Shop Christmas Party before Christmas! Many thanks to the organisers and all those who donated and produced some lovely food for the buffet which looked and tasted absolutely wonderful. Thanks to all of our volunteers and helpers without whom we would simply not have a shop at all! Here's to a successful 2016 and hopefully significant progress towards our permanent home in the main square.
Forthcoming fund-raising events: April/May 2015 A fun quiz will be held soon at the Bullers Arms Hotel in order to raise funds towards our new Village Shop. An entertaining evening is guaranteed! Full details will be announced as soon as final arrangements have been sorted. See you there!
